Being a pet owner requires a lot of time and effort. One of the most important things to keeping a pet healthy is feeding them! Unfortunately for my dog, I live a busy life full of school, work, and spending time with friends. How do I make sure my dog is getting fed twice a day, every day, if I’m not always home? This is the problem that I sought to solve for my project. The solution to this problem is Man’s Best Friend. The purpose of this device is to solve this problem many pet owners face. My device ensures that my dog will get two meals each day regardless if I am at home to feed her or not.
My dog eats twice a day. She eats a meal early every morning and she eats a meal in the evening. Being an eighteen year old college student, there is a slim chance I ever wake up before noon. Luckily my device takes care of feeding my dog for me. Using a phototransistor, my device detects the presence of sunlight each morning. As the room begins to fill with sunlight, a motor is activated. This motor turns a plastic water bottle full of dog food. The water bottle has holes in it so as it rotates, the food falls into my dog’s dish where she can enjoy a delicious meal without me having to wake up. The device will not activate again until the next morning even as the sun continues to shine. In addition to the morning feeding, my device also can be activated from an html file over the internet allowing me to dispense food manually even if I am not home. If I am going to be out and about during dinner time, I can still make sure there is food ready in the bowl. No matter where my busy schedule takes me, my dog will never be left waiting for a meal.
